One of the great actors of the 1970s and beyond, Robert Duvall died yesterday at the age of 95. Beginning his film and television career in 1960, he rose by the 1970s to become one of Hollywood’s most respected and quietly powerful performers, leaving an indelible mark in roughly 145 films and TV shows. His remarkable body of work includes classics like "The Godfather", "The Godfather Part II", "Apocalypse Now", “Network", "Tender Mercies", “MASH", "Sling Blade", "The Apostle", and one of my childhood favorites, "The Great Santini".
Over the course of his career, he took home an Academy Award (out of seven nominations) and two Emmy Awards (out of five nominations), cementing his reputation as one of the finest actors of his generation. You can read more about his life and career in my previous post on the classic in which he made his film debut, "To Kill a Mockingbird" — just click the film title to open it.
