Legendary director Norman Jewison died today at the age of 97. He was one of the new breed of directors to emerge out of Hollywood in the 1960s and 1970s, and a very versatile and creative talent. Five of his films earned Best Picture Oscar nominations, two of which are already on this blog: "In the Heat of the Night" and "Fiddler on the Roof", and you can read more about his life and career in both of those posts. Just click on the titles to open them. He will be greatly missed.

Always sad when one of these movie icons pass away. I watched In The Heat of The Night only just a few nights ago, BBC iPlayer have it and I've loved this film always. I pay attention to who is the Director of a film and I knew this man directed Thomas Crown Affair coz Steve was one of my fav actors. He reached a good age didn't he unlike so many who have gone from us a lot earlier than 97. RIP Sir.
Your posts are always welcome, and I am sad about Mr. Jewison's passing. Moonstruck is probably my favorite move of all time. Given the performances from everyone in that movie, I can only assume he loved his work, and hopefully, everyone loved him right back.
I am so sad to learn of Norman Jewison's passing. I worked with him on Moonstruck at the start of my behind-the-scenes career. He was a brilliant actor's director and a kind, compassionate man, who made great movies. I will miss him.
Thanks for honoring him!
